sprained right ankle in feb. had mri done in mayatfl partially torn and cfl ruptured. pt has helped, but experiencing burning and sensitivity on medial malleolus. what is causing this? recent x-ray shows no fracture, only diffuse soft tissue edema?

: Takes many months for healing, and swelling to remit.  If there is a question of occult bone dysfunction, a triple phase bone scan might be in order just to be complete.   But time and patience with ongoing PT will provide eventual success.

fractured calcaneus and talus in right ankle 6wks ago. wearing aircast and crutches. pain in ankle subsided, some swelling still visible - 30% compared to week 1. tingling, pins & needles are getting worse, is it nerve damage? how to get rid of it?

: You still have many months ahead before you get through this major injury. Your doctor is your best source for information concerning your injury. Discuss with your physical therapist.

I assume a dr: Ordered an MRI which is how you know you have sub articular marrow edema....so what did this dr suggest?

Maybe: Is truely nondisplaced then no surgery necessary. If it is have then surgery. Even 2 mm of displacement can lead to prolonged healing up to 16 weeks.

i'm wondering if i sprained my ankle or fractured it. i've sprained my ankle many times but it feels worse than usual. it is my right ankle. i landed on it folded inward. how can i tell? how long should i wait or can i wait to get an x-ray?

: See a podiatrist for an examination. They will determine if a radiograph is necessary and what treatment, if any, should be rendered. Waiting may not allow the injury to heal properly.

More info?: A "bone chip" could refer to a number if different things including a small crack or nondisplaced fracture or a small loose body in the joint. Depending on the details of the injury, the treatment may be nonoperative or surgical.

See below: It means that you tore off a piece of bone from the main bone and it has never healed back to the bone.

i had a compounded fracture in my right ankle years ago with pins and plates. could it cause any problems as i age?

Hardware: The hardware in your ankle could possibly cause problems down the line.  It could loosen which would require its removal.  It could become infected.  If it crossed an open growth plate, deformities could develop.  Most of the time, the hardware goes unnoticed.

: It is worth getting seen and getting an xray of the right ankle.  It could be some arthritis or other cartilage injury.
