It depends: It depends on the ligament that is torn and the severity of the tear.  Every time an ankle ligament is torn it weakens the ligament and can make the ankle looser if not treated properly.  For a standard ankle sprain it usually takes 2-4 weeks to recover.  If more severe, it can take several more weeks of immobilization and in some cases surgery to correct the torn ligament.

chronic ankle pain , or any pain for that matter, always has a reason for being there, or what we call an etiology. Yours simply has not been diagnosed. I would suggest an examination by a qualified specialist to determine what is hurting, why its hurting and what is the proper treatment.

Stabilize the ankle: Ligaments have no blood supple and as a result don't heal. You need to have your ankle scoped with possible repair of the ligament with excision of the thickened tissues covering the ankle (synovium)
