It depends: It depends on the ligament that is torn and the severity of the tear. Every time an ankle ligament is torn it weakens the ligament and can make the ankle looser if not treated properly. For a standard ankle sprain it usually takes 2-4 weeks to recover. If more severe, it can take several more weeks of immobilization and in some cases surgery to correct the torn ligament.
