about to finish my 3 day zithromax 500 for strep throat. no more pain, but still having white patches on tonsils... is this normal ? will it take time to disappear or does it mean antibiotic didnt work? thanks a lot

7-10 days: It can take 7-10 days for symptoms to clear entirely, including white patches. Even with a positive strep test, many or most symptoms like this are due to an underlying viral infection -- and no virus responds to azithromycin (Zithromax) or any other antibiotic. Return to your doctor if you still have symptoms after 10 days.

Yes: Zithromax (Zpak, azithromycin) is usually effective against strep throat germs, so surely a doctor somewhere has prescribed a 7-day course for treating strep throat. The usual course of Zithromax for strep throat is 5 days, but taking another 2 days should not cause any problems.

Throat: A physician might decide on obtaining a throat culture and sensitivity to see if your bacteria is resistant to the antibiotic that was currently prescribed. Strep throat?: The purpose of antibiotics for streptococcal infections of the throat is not to reduce symptoms (they will seldom alter the normal course of illness), but rather to prevent post-streptococcal complications like acute rheumatic fever. Don't know how the diagnosis was made, but sometimes viral infections can be confused with strep and vice-versa.

i just finished a course of azithromycin yesterday and i took turmeric with my smoothie yesterday and today. heard turmeric can reduce affects of antibiotics. the strep seems gone but don't want rebound. am i ok?

: 1. Unless you had strept test on throat swab very unlikely you had strept.
2. Take turmeric if you like the taste and for no other reason.
3.  You most likely had a viral common cold and are OK but discuss with the Dr who saw you.
