my sternum  aches when i inhale its a dull aching pain whenever i inhale, it seems to worsen when i lay down to sleep at night?

It may be a : Condition known as a costochondritis which is an inflammatory condition of the cartilage of the sternal region.  It usually occurs after a flu or cold and gets better over time.  Over the counter medication can help with symptoms but get checked to make sure it is not heart or lung related.

having some pain under left rib cage and under sternum. dull ache during the day and wakes me at night. stools/urine are good. gastritis or other?

Consult: Did you do strenuous activity recently? If yes, it could be muscle related. Is no we would ask further questions see if this is an urgent issue.

Concerning : Please get a full check and making sure the pain is non-cardiovascular in etiology.  Please follow up with pcp and rule out CAD and aortic aneurysm.

R/O COSTOCHONDRITIS: You need to be examined have blood work and ekg. If you had a recent viral infection , you may have a post infection COSTOCHONDRITIS which usually responds to a course of prednisone with taper over 8dys.

: The term "costochondritis" is used for the inflammation of the costochondral joints of the anterior part of the rib cage. You could have costovertebral joint dysfunction at the same time which causes the upper back pain.

Yes......: Coughing can result in musculoskeletal pain, including sternal pain. But, if the sternal pain is present when you're not coughing, it could be heart-related which requires an er visit. If musculoskeletal, it will improve once your cough resolves so see your doc for cough treatment. If you smoke, you need to quit asap!

what can give you a dull ache 3inches above your sternum intermitent but not when swallowing dr?

Plenty: At your age your heart, lungs, intestinal tract, and chest bone could be causing it.  Chest pain should be taken seriously as life threatening causes should be ruled out first. The best advice is to call your doctor or go to the Emergency Room to ascertain what it could be. Good luck

This : This is an issue that warrants medical evaluation. You could be dealing with a sternal mass, or just be dealing with a prominent sternum. An x-ray or ultrasound of the area will give more clues as to the diagnosis.
