R/O COSTOCHONDRITIS: You need to be examined have blood work and ekg. If you had a recent viral infection , you may have a post infection COSTOCHONDRITIS which usually responds to a course of prednisone with taper over 8dys.

Unusual: Such an unusual discomfort may be due to stretching of muscles and/or ligaments in the neck and upper rib cage. Have you been doing any exercises or weight lifting that could be straining these muscles or ligaments? If so, avoid putting stress on the upper chest area to see if the symptoms resolve. See your Physician if symptoms persist.
