For swelling ?: If you are asking to do that for leg swelling then standing and sitting for long time does not help, you either have to walk for few minutes or sit and put your legs up to decrease venous pressure in you legs.

is standing all day 5 days a week at work with a standing desk potentially harmful? im 33, male and slipped a disc about a year and a half ago. i understand a proper standing desk is beneficial. can standing for 8/9 hours a day 5 days a week be bad?

: A lot of jobs require standing the whole day during working hours. However, there are break times so you should move or do light exercises in sitting or supine position if possible during breaks if applicable.

Accepted Answer

Generally good: Having a tall, standing-type desk is generally a good thing for many reasons: less strain on the back (because most desk chairs promote poor posture), improved leg and core strength, and less neck strain.  However, be sure to not "hunch over" your desk and be sure to keep your legs moving (vs just standing with no movement for any prolonged period of time). Find a way to relax if you get tired.

does standing make an umbilical hernia worse?  i recently built a standing desk so i have a choice of sitting or standing at a desk.

Might even help: When your abdomen is stretched out, like when you're standing or lying down, there is decreased abdominal pressure compared to sitting and should therefore decrease the amount of pressure on an umbilical hernia. Also, standing will overall improve your health and core musculature, which should also help!

No: This is probably a good idea and the chain pharmacy stores usually have dressy looking ones that are adequate as a preventative.

would a standing desk help to prevent a blood clot in the leg? i have a job where i sit a lot and i am scared of getting a clot, so i purchased a standing desk so i can stand a lot instead of constantly sitting.. is this helpful? advice please?

: Yes, standing desk will reduce the risk of venous thrombosis. You may go a step further and get a low speed treadmill that you may employ while at your desk. Consulting your occupational health personnel at work my facilitate getting a more healthy work environment.

There are: multiple retail devices being sold which claim to do this. All are of questionable efficacy and either have not been studied or the studies are of poor quality. The best way to prevent deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolus (PE) while sitting for prolonged periods is to move. Get up. Stretch. Take walk breaks every hour. Hope this helps!

head rush upon standing from my desk at work. doesn't happen at home or when i wake up. after a few seconds of standing, it feels like blood rushing to head, even hearing is affected. happened for years now. 4 bottles of water a day.

"Head Rush": You may have orthostatic hypotension, a lowering of blood pressure when you rise.  Please see your doctor.  If not what was just mentioned, the doc will help you find out the cause and solution.  Peace and good health.

Chang water after 6 : FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) recommends storing tap water in clean plastic, glass, enameled metal, or fiberglass container, it should be tightly sealed and stored in a dark, cool location. The water should be rotated out about every six months.
Stored water may get some algae on the container and there is a slight risk of bacterial growth after several months.
