See physician: Sharp, stabbing chest pain is usually a simple problem like spasm in the intercostal muscles but in order to be sure you should be evaluated by a good physician. After taking a history and examining you they might order some imaging studies to make sure there is nothing more serious going on.

Lung or rib: Your family physician should be able to distinguish between rib pain ( intercostal neuralgia) which can radiate from front to back of chest,  and pain from the lung  (intrathoraic). This would include pleurisy (pleuritis) , various forms of pneumonia,

?Pleuritic: Inflammation of the lining of the lungs and chest cavity, known as pleuritis or pleurisy, can cause "pleuritic" chest pain. Pleuritis should be suspected if the pain or burning gets worse when you take deep breaths.  There may be several causes of pleuritis, such as infection, inflammation, reactive airway disease, etc. Take an NSAID and call the Dr. for an evlautaion of your chest/lung discomfort

Infection: Asthmatic bronchitis may be the problem. Your symptoms are worrisome enough to warrant an examination by a physician promptly for diagnosis and treatment. A chest xray may be advised as part of the evaluation. An hospital emergency room visit now is recommended for prompt examination and treatment.

May be recurrence: .... Could also be unrelated.   There are some conditions that can result in recurrent "pneumonia".  This may be an infectious process or it may be an inflammatory disease.   There are even some airway tumors that can occur in nonsmokers and result in recurrent pneumonias.  Bottom line. ..If it continues bother you, or you develop more symptoms, see your doctor.  You may need further testing.

M.D. visit: It may be due to exercise induced asthma or muscular strain, but I would recommend seeing your PCP.

Rib cage: This is likely from coughing too much causing inflammation at the rib cage. Try ice pad or heating pack- depending on which works well.  It should improve in a few weeks after the cough has subsided.

Call your doctor: These are concerning symptoms. Chest trauma can be associated with pain that limits inspiration. Muscle injury of the intercostal muscles between the ribs may do the same. Chest heaviness is typically not seen. SVT with a high heart rate &gt;120, pneumonia, collapsed lung, heart arrhythmia, heart failure, viral myocarditis are other possible causes. A chest X-ray and examination is needed ASAP.
