Tendon injury?: You may have a possible tendon injury.  Have it evaluated by a professional and get the appropriate treatment.

Swelling: The residual swelling creates pressure on the nerves to the foot and ankle and thereby the pain.  Give it some time, a few months, for the swelling to go down and the pain will go away.  If not see your podiatrist.

can sciatica cause extreme back leg pain, knee and calf as well as ankle and foot pain, nearly to extent of feeling like a sprained ankle?

Yes: All these symptoms may result from sciatica, but see a doc to make sure you don’t have disc disease , or other compression, that also can produce the same symptoms.

Sprain or fracture: Was it x-rayed? If it is not a missed fracture or widened mortise, your inactivity could be a cause.  Failure to dorsiflex your foot fully will cause metatarsalgia-forefoot pain. Plantar fasciitis although it is a really different problem is about the underside of the heel and is actually a bursa.  If it was neg/x-ray start runner's stretches and get the ankle loose.

YES: Depending upon the severity of the sprain, swelling can extend to the foot. My question to you-without seeing a doctor, how can you be sure it's "just a sprain." Most ankle sprains, I think, are undertreated resulting in lingering problems.

Rest: Ice, compression, elevation. If swelling is severe i would recommend crutches with no weight bearing. If numbness is being felt, the bandage may be on to tight and you need to let the doctor know, .

Potentially: Yes, potentially, particularly if the zone of injury or even the associated inflammation or swelling has spread to that area.  Don't hesitate to be followed for it.

Tell your doctor...: After 3 weeks from an ankle sprain, symptoms should have subsided if you've been properly examined and treated.  If scar tissue formed in the area, you may be getting compression on an adjacent nerve.  Get your ankle examined properly.  An mri/ct would probably be best to examine the soft tissue.  Your doc will probably rule out structural and vascular problems too.  Get checked.

Ankle sprain: Normal healing of a sprained ankle takes several weeks (on average).  If its a chronically sprained ankle with constant pain and instability, it will take longer than a "normal" sprain.  Yes, a sprain can get worse.  Usually 3-4 weeks of rest, icing, antiinflammatory meds (like advil (ibuprofen) or motrin), bracing or compressing wraps, with or without physical therapy should be normal. Hope that helps!

Nerve injury: There is a cutaneous (skin) nerve on top of the foot that could have been stretched or is irritated because of swelling or from the brace.
Elevate, massage, ace wrap, maybe some benefit to physical therapy.
