i get many sleep attacks throughout the day, there are days when i sleep all day or stay up all day. what should i do? i am a teen.

Teens sleep: Many teens can experience day time sleepiness.  Teens need 8-10 hours of sleep at night but growth changes make it difficult for a teen to fall asleep early enough on a school night.  Try and get to bed same time each night, read a book, avoid screen time an hour before, avoid caffeine.  If symptoms persist see a healthcare worker for a check up.

Can happen : There are lot of people who wake up in the middle of the night thinking they are having a heart attack and go to er.
There they get a full check up, and get DX with panic attack.  It happens.

Anxiety: I would start with counseling. The therapist will be able to evaluate her and determine the need for medication. If indicated, give the medication a try. I have found it to be very effective, along with therapy. You can always stop it.

Yes: Yes. You can still have narcolepsy and not have significantly evident abrupt sleep intrusions, but usually this is when treated. If you feel sleepiness coming on and are able to go lie down, likely excessive daytime sleepiness. Need a sleep study then an mslt (napping test).

Sudden attacks: Sudden sleep attacks  are not normal.  Always difficult to come to a conclusion with seem or maybe. I would see a physician.

Panic Attacks: Yes.  Many people who are living with stress and other unresolved mental health issues can wake up feeling chest tightness and anxiety and even with panic.

If you have not dealt with the underlying mental health issues this may be your body's way of pointing out you have work to do.

Getting good advice along with other natural techniques to relax is wise.

Stop a panic attack: By learning relaxation skills ahead of time.  Biofeedback training can help you learn to manage your body's reactions.  Find biofeedback professionals at www.Aapb.Org and www.Bcia.Org.  You may not be able to stop an attack, but you may minimize it by not reacting to it with fear.  Try to just observe it.   Medication may also reduce the intensity of an attack.  Find someone who treats anxiety.

Relax: Assuming medical problems have been ruled out there are lots of things to help reduce anxiety before sleep.  One can't be relaxed and anxious, so reducing stimulants such as cigarettes and coffee, late eating, or stimulating activity before bed can help - relaxation exercises, deep breathing, soothing activities before bed are wise.  A clinical psychologist can help with these if one has trouble.

Time for consultatn: A new baby does some interesting things with your emotions and the fluctuation in your hormones after delivery can amplify the problems.You realize you are stuck and need a way out.Talk therapy with or without some medication may be a way to deal with your new life.
