i have had a cold for 4+weeks i feel better , still have a cough my dr says it is just a virus i had a xray i wake up with a sore throat lung cancer?

Cough.: While I wouldn’t think cancer first and foremost in this context, I do think you have something that requires more investigation as there may be a simple treatment option for you.  This could just be allergies.  Or maybe a bacterial infection.  Or a post-tussive cough.

Dr. can check throat: Lung cancer is unlikely (yet possible) at age 30. Never smoke anything other than salmon, brisket, etc. Throat symptoms can be from strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or other virus (antibiotics usually not used), allergies or irritants, sinusitis, stomach reflux when asleep, etc... One usually sees the doctor if the throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly.

can a chest ct scan rule out lung cancer?  i have pain in shoulder/clavicle. x ray and ct clear.  pain persists along with sore sternum/throat.

In most cases: While it's true that no test is 100%, ct's are very sensitive and specific. Especially in your case -where you're dealing with significant symptoms - a space-occupying lesion would be detectable if generating that much discomfort.

Lung cancer: Would not be my first guess,  but if you have concerns,  other symptoms or a family history, then have it checked, maybe discuss with primary and get chest x ray.  However, lung cancer is not a common cause for the symptoms you are having. Look at sleep or ergonomic changes that could be contributing. Have physical exam see if neck issues like arthritis or something irritating nerve roots.

Or pinched nerve : Sholde pain with neck motion  can be a pinched c5nerve root pain shoulder pain with neck extension is called spurlings maneuver usually a bone spur or disc herniation at c45 something to consider see a doctor physical exam very well could be a sore muscle esp if tender to palpation

Probably not: Throat clearing is often due to irritation from drainage from the nose or sinus region or reflux of acid from the stomach.

Sure but not exactly: Especially in the cold and flu season, everybody has occasional itchy throat, scratchy throat, sore throat, throat clearing, or occasional cough. Thus, people with lung cancer have such symptoms just like the billions of other people without lung cancer. Since lung cancer is somewhat rare, one cannot say that all of us have the signs of lung cancer. It's a sign but a useless sign of cancer.

i have throat tightness and cough (quality:chronic cough) i smoked for 7 years and quit 2 weeks ago and i'm  afraid of having lung cancer. possible?

Cough: Unlikely. These are common symptoms which occur when you quit and the airway is recovering function, ciliary function, recovering from chronic inflammation. Acute phase is three weeks, Subacute phase is 3 months. Drink a lot of water. Best to get a Chest x-ray
