my friend just developed a sore throat today, went to dr and has strep. i took a sip of her coffee yesterday. chances i'll get sick?

Strep Throat: 29 year old lady with a concern about strep throat after sharing coffee with a girlfriend with strep throat. There is a good chance that you will develop strep throat and if you do it will develop relatively quickly.  Please wait and if you start to develop symptoms of a sore throat then visit a physician ASAP for a rapid strep test to confirm the diagnosis prior to antibiotic therapy. Good luck

See MD for an exam: 29 year old lady with chills/malaise. Please visit your physician for a full exam. A physician can examine you in person and not only take into account your symptoms, but also examine you physically. MD needs to know your vital signs, medical history. I would test for strep if you were in the office, however, malaise/chills with no fever are not enough to give you antibiotics with no rapid strep.

sore throat. dr said its my acid reflux (bad ibs and anxiety). taking pantopraz unicorn 40 twice a day for about 2 wks now. do i have to stay away from coffee? if so, for how long? got better but my throat gets sore when i have coffee again.

Avoid caffeine!: As you can see, caffeine gives you a sore throat. It makes acid reflux and IBS and anxiety worse!  So stop it for now. Get checked for H. pylori, which can cause GI symptoms.  Lose weight to help reflux if you are overweight.  Get therapy to help you control anxiety as best as you can. Good luck!  Stay safe.

why do i get a sore throat after eating certain foods? it's usually foods high in fat (peanut butter, olive oil, etc.) and sometimes, coffee. thanks!

May be reflux: Of acidic stomach contents. Fatty foods, coffee, chocolate, a bunch of meds, large meals, lying down or bending over after eating, pepiermint, chamomile can all increase reflux into esophagus. Can go all the way up to the throat in some people.

Throat discomfort: Top diagnoses to think about this time of year would be strep throat, allergic sinusitis &amp; post-nasal drip, all of which can be tied into each other. To help with symptoms, you can obtain an antihistamine like Allegra &amp; pair it with a nasal steroid like Flonase, both are OTC. Gargle with Listerine. Plenty fluids. If you are having fevers and the mucus is yellow-green, see your doc for antibiotics.

Needs to be checked: With symptoms of shortness of breath or difficulty in brething I strongly advice you to go to the nearesr Emergency Dpartment of the nearest hospital and get checked by a doctor.Or call your doctor if he makes a house call.Meanwhile relax and calm down as anxiety can make your symptoms worse.Drink room temperature water if tea or coffe make it worse

Maybe antibiotics: Sore throat can be caused by virus or bacteria.  I would recommend that you see a doctor and get a rapid strep and culture.  If it is strep, you will need a prescription for an antibiotic.  In the meantime there are lots of soothing otc lozenges for relief of pain.  Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin also help with the pain.

It depends: Many sore throats are viral and will go away without treatment.  Gargle with warm salt water several times a day and eat ice cream or drink cold drinks for comfort.  You can find some lozenges that will numb the throat but they will also numb the tongue, which some people don't like.  If you also have a fever, headache,  bad breath, or swollen glands in your neck, you should be checked.

OTC pain meds: Many people think in terms of a gargle but Ibuprofen is pretty good at pain relief & should help your throat. Tylenol (acetaminophen) comes in a liquid for people who's sore throat makes it hard to swallow pills.
