im having difficulty sleeping. ive tried ambien, sonata, lunesta, and mirtazapine. none of them get me to sleep or keep me asleep. what medication would work to help me to get to sleep and stay asleep for at least 8 hours?

: Try exercise, quiet comfortable atmosphere and bed to sleep in. Light meal several hours before bedtime, avoiding caffeinated drinks and sticking to the same time to go to bed -first. If not successful then see your MD for advice in your situation. Any med for sleep is habit forming and not good for health. Wishing you pleasant ZZZZZZZs

i've struggled with insomnia my entire life.. even when i decided to get off all medications.. i never could i sleep... my boyfriend's mom gives me her sonata prescription at times when needed... it helps me fall asleep... can't find doc ?

Why?: can't you find a doctor? Never use anyone else's medication. Consult a psychologist for relaxation techniques and speak to a medical doctor regarding newer therapies for insomnia.Not sure what you mean by "can't find a doctor". Consult local hospital referral services or your local county health clinic.

Insomnia treatment: Sonata (zaleplon) is a prescription medication approved for short term treatment of insomnia.  It interacts with gaba-benzodiazepine receptor complexes in the brain, helping with sleep. It domes in 2 doses, 5 and 10 mg.It is contraindicated for people with history of liver disease, lung issues, depression or other psychiatric diseases and history of alcohol or drug abuse. It is not safe during pregnancy.

No, I do not believe: It would work well. Work with a psychiatrist or sleep doc to transition you to another med like trazodone. You should have a psych eval and sleep to look into other causes of insomnia that may be underlying your dependence. Once off meds a trial of cognitive therapy for insomnia could be very helpful. Not recommended: The effects of combining sonata (zaleplon) and alcohol included ^'ed dizziness, drowsiness ; problems with concentrating, cognition and judgment.

with a international flight soon, i will try to get ativan for the flight. to sleep good while there, would 1-3 mg of melatonin or sonata (zaleplon) be better ?

I would start with: Melatonin taken about two hours before your desired bedtime. If that does not work, you can use 10 mg of sonata (zaleplon) if prescribed for you and in this situation i write may repeat x 1 if you wake up and have at least three hours of sleep time left, so you can take another and go back to sleep within about twenty minutes. It is very common to become addicted to sonata (zaleplon) and other drugs like it on the market. And, many people in drug treatment programs are there for prescription drug misuse and abuse.

Different: Everyone is different.  It also depends upon why you are having difficulty with sleep.  If you suffer insomnia talk to your doctor about this.  There are many medications that can be used for  this disorder.
