More info needed: Uneven surfaces could irritate joints from loose ligaments.  Also nerve fibers are stretched causing a propioception response on the extensor digatorium brevis muscle which is on top of your foot.  Need a medical examination to find out the "root" of the problem.

i was running through a field when i stepped in a hole and rolled my ankle. now the top of my foot hurts badly especially when i stand or walk on it?

You definitively : Should see a foot and ankle doc you need xrays and clinical exam. You need to rule out presence degree of sprain and rule out any fractures.

stepped on something on the bottom of my big toe towards the inside outer part big toe is now very swollen very painful pain going halfway up the top of my foot swelling of the big toe and under and around the big toe on the bottom awesome?

Toe/Foot : It is very important to have your toe and foot examined as soon as possible to check the possibility of a foreign body in your foot and/or infection that can spread and require aggressive medical therapy. A day can make a difference, so have it checked soon.

i stepped on an old nail 2 days ago and it punctured my foot now the top of my foot is red and swollen and sore. idklast tetanus shot. is it too late?

See a podiatrist : You need to be seen immidately. In addition to needing a tetanus booster you need to be treated for a probable infection, should have an x-ray and may require surgery to clean the wound.

i was going down the steps and turned my foot.it felt like something pulled.it's on the top of my foot to the ankle.i can't put any pressure on it.

If there is: Bruising on the lateral ankle with swelling and you absolutely can't tolerate any pressure you may need x-ray, but typically just the anterior tibio-fibular ligament is sprained and only requires ice, elevation and early mobilization with bracing.  Best to have your doctor or a good urgent care doctor take a look.

i was running a couple weeks ago and felt a sharp pain in the top of my foot. it has been hurting off and on since. some times i can walk for a couple hours and be fine and then later that day one or two steps are really painful?

: You could have developed a stress fracture. See a podiatrist for proper evaluation, diagnosis and treatment.

Capsulitis: Most commonly you may have a capsulitis condition where the metatarsalphalangeal joints are inflamed, or you can have a mild bone bruise of one or more of the metatarsal bones.  There are also other conditions that are not as common.  You can try rest, ice, and some otc Ibuprofen or aleve (naproxen).  If it doesn't improve, you should see a podiartist.

Sounds like: classic METATARSALGIA ..and inflammation of one of the bones in your foot often associated with "PES PLANUS" (Flat feet)
A good ORTHORTIC device in your shoe or a shoe with proper arch support may be very helpful. ICE is often useful in the meantime.

i have a torn ligament in my foot on top of the ankle joint. how should i walk? do i bend the ankle or keep it straight while taking a step?

Accepted Answer

Shouldn't be walking: If you have a torn ligament then your foot should be in a brace or a cast until you are seen by an orthopedic surgeon.  Keep the foot at a 90 degree angle constantly gives it a better chance of holding together and healing.  This cannot be accomplished without some external structure.
