They are a hugely variable family and i would urge you to have several pathologists examine the tissue prior to a definitive diagnosis being made.

Very hard...: To describe. Some are fibrous sarcomas and some are fatty liposaromas. Generally are hard, firm, gritty, gray-yellow rounded densities. Can infiltrate other tissues or can push other normal tissues away. Feels and looks differently than surrounding normal tissues.

Borderline lesion: In the spectrum of fibrous tissue tumors, fibromatosis representing a lesion at the lower end. It begins with keloid, then desmoid , progressing to fibromatosis and then dermatofibrosarcoma.  When plantar fibromatosis first reported, incomplete resection led to local recurrence. Lesion interpreted as malignant and amputations then performed. Now recognized as benign.

Rarely.: If you are talking about a plain, standard, old-fashioned x-ray, soft tissue sarcoma rarely appears because these types of x-rays are really designed to evaluate bones.  Soft tissue sarcomas are usually fleshy and better evaluated with ct scans (a different kind of x-ray), or mri. Sarcoma that has spread to the lungs can be see on a plain chest x-ray thought.

See below: If the sarcoma is localized, it should be removed by a cancer surgeon. If it has spread, chemotherapy is the best option. A combination of doxorubicin, Ifosfamide and Mesna is commonly recommended.

If often: Doesn't. Regular xrays are insufficient for the diagnosis of sarcomas. Mri with contrast is the best noninvasive test for this.
