Borderline lesion: In the spectrum of fibrous tissue tumors, fibromatosis representing a lesion at the lower end. It begins with keloid, then desmoid , progressing to fibromatosis and then dermatofibrosarcoma. When plantar fibromatosis first reported, incomplete resection led to local recurrence. Lesion interpreted as malignant and amputations then performed. Now recognized as benign.

Yes: Fibromatosis, while it doesn't have "sarcoma"in the name is actually a low-grade sarcoma. However, this only applies to cases occurring in the abdomen. Less commonly, these tumors can occur on the extremity. Cases of Palmar and Plantar fibromatosis are not aggressive and generally behave in a benign fashion.
