It shouldn't: Small umbilical hernias that cause no symptoms are quite common and can be watched without risk.  If the military examiner feels the hernia should be repaired, it still should not interfere with your military service.

Very unlikely: If the hernia is small and reducible (you can push it back in) it is unlikely to cause problems. If the hernia ever causes you pain or you cannot push it back in, that needs to be evaluated by a physician right away.

There is really not information to guide you expect that if the surgery is in regards to pancreatitis, it may be because the patient is having severe pancreatitis with abscess or infection in the abdomen that require surgical management. Yes: It is very common to have a small umbilical hernia repaired at the same time you have a laparoscopic gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy). It is not a routine practice to examine ovaries during gallbladder surgery, however, it is technically possible. Have this discussion with your surgeon. He/she may want to have a gynecologist available.

It should not.: Umbilical hernia repair is a superficial surgery to the abdominal wall and should not be affected by an internal problem such as circumaortic renal collar.  Circumaortic renal collar can be hazardous in retroperitoneal surgery (surgery involving the posterior part of the abdominal cavity), and then usually only if it is not previous known about.  Umbilical hernias are located anteriorly.

Suture repair if any: A small hernia without symptoms can remain untreated surgically. This is a for a 'fingertip' sized painless hernia without protrusion.

Preemployment: It would depend on who thought of the preemployment physical goes if you have it if you're going for a job that requires lifting then finding a umbilical hernia  may cause you to be disqualified and if you were going for a job that requires you to have x-rays of your feet as it involved a lot of walking this may cause disqualification. However for most occupations thes conditions are innocuous

i used to go to the gym and lift weights but i feel discomfort and the ct shows a small umbilical hernia of 0.5cm only herniating while straining ... what should i do and can i go to the gym ?

Accepted Answer

: You can wear a protective belt over it before lifting. But if there is increase in size or pain you will need it to be repaired. Avoid sudden heavy exertions
