good morning doctors. if i am ok with paying out of pocket, is it ever ok to have regular or deep gum scalings more often than every 3 months, or would this be too much? could this greater frequency damage my gums further?

: Your dentist along with your dental hygienist would be best to weigh in based on current situation. Generally not needed providing good  cleaning at home on a regular basis. The presence of medical comorbidities will have to be considered as well.

Accepted Answer

Yes  sometime: Most of the time you don't need anesthetic with a regular cleaning with ultrasonic scaling if you have been going to the dentist frequently.
You will need anesthesia if you need a deep cleaning because your gum is already inflamed and the scaler has to go deep under the gum to remove the deep calculus.

hi doctors. can your gums bleed after scaling if they are healthy and you are on blood thinners?

: Being on blood thinners can certainly predispose you to easy bleeding, but it can also uncover underlying problems like low platelets,leukemia,liver disease, and depending on what blood thinner you’re on, too much of it. See your doctor to be properly evaluated.

very good morning doctors. how long would be considered too long for delayed clotting and continued bleeding after deep gum scaling? are there any treatments for bleeding after deep or regular gum scaling?

: If your bleeding lasts for many hours , a half a day or more than see a physician for a blood workup you could have type 2 diabetes or hopefully not leukemia.  A severe gum disease will cause bleeding but not lasting and no clotting that long is a sign of a medical problem. If you practice good oral hygiene than your gums won't bleed as much in future especially if you have no medical issues.

husband has chronic terrible itching, scaling, and blockage of ears making him crazy! had ointment...no help. now also draining. what kind of doctor/specialist should he see? thanks

Psoriasis/Eczema: The ear canals are a very common place that men develop the autoimmune diseases of psoriasis and eczema.  I would bet he needs a steroid liquid strong enough to suppress the immune response in his skin.  A good family doctor or a dermatologist is just fine to evaluate and treat this problem.

i have a skin irritation around just the lower area of my nose around my nostrils that is itching, with redness and scaling. i saw my doctor after it ?

What did he say: You have been examined by your docto, what was his diagnosis and what he prescrived for it
it may be due an infection or contact dermatitis.Follow up with your doctor.

Individualized: Hi. No one on this site can tell you that information. You need to talk with your doctor or see a specialist who deals with diabetes. The amount of Novolog you take for meals depends meal-by-meal on what your sugar is coming into the meal, what &amp; how much you're going to eat, and your current sensitivity to insulin. You need to be doing frequent glucose monitoring to keep it safe &amp; effective.

i have t1d. i'm in need of a new sliding scale/ dosing chart for my novolin n and novolin r. i can't get in to see my endo so any help is appreciated.

Sliding scale insul: This is a complicated question and we cannot prescribe with this type of consult.  I would check with your regular Dr if you can't get to Endo. They know you better than we do.  You can also go to uptodate.com and review what they recommend based on all of you health issues and other meds.

t1d 20 years. well-controlled sugars. a1c is 5.9. sliding scale humalog, lantus in morning and night. a couple months ago i no longer need my morning lantus. ive stopped taking it as ive been running low. what can cause no longer needing that dose?

: Changed your diet or exercise is most likely reason.  Keep diary and shared with your Dr.
