I would bet he needs a steroid liquid strong enough to suppress the immune response in his skin. A good family doctor or a dermatologist is just fine to evaluate and treat this problem.

Derm +or ENT/Otolar,: This is very likely a skin issue like eczema or psoriasis, and it is located in the ears, so it would be a good idea to take him to see a dermatologist for the skin issue or an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) or otolaryngologist due to the fact that it is located in the ears. Best of luck.

Ear itching: You can try sweet oil or eucerin cream on a qtip twirled in the ear. The sweet oil can be used with a dropper-4drops each ear. An ear nose and throat doctor or otolaryngologist would be the doctor to see if you want to see a specialist in this area. Good luck. Hope you feel better soon.
