Perhaps: If you are taking a benzodiazepine or similar sleep medicine there could be a transient increase in anxiety when the medication wears off. The same thing happens with alcohol and is the reason why drinking alcohol at night doesn't help your sleep. It may help you get to sleep but when it wears off in the early am it leads to early sleep awakening...

Any : Any patient who has insomnia must pay attention to their sleep hygiene. You must avoid alcohol and sedatives after 6 pm, leave bed for sex and sleep only and no tv in bed. If you can't fall asleep in bed don't stay in bed just find something else to do and come back to bed when u are a little sleepy. This will train your brain that bed is not for worrying/watching tv etc and will improve sleep. If all this does not work then you can consider other alternatives. Since melatonin is a natural supplement thus should be the first step. Sleep aids have high risk of dependance and should be tried on as needed basis only.

Understanding: Key is to understand migraines. Migraines tend to come on after a stressful event or high stress day. During the day you are in focus or focused on a task or tasks-multitasking of sorts, and therefore you have higher levels of adrenaline noradrenaline and your sympathetic nervous system is working overtime. This causes your blood vessels to be tight are narrowed or constricted as we say in medicine. After the stress is taken away  you are removing yourself from the stress the constriction of the blood vessels releases itself and they become dilated are opened up. With this you get a rush of blood to the head.this rush of blood to the head causes the migraines to come on.that is why migraines are treated with medicines to help constricted blood vessels like caffeine and Imitrex (sumatriptan) and similar type medications. the key is to help slow yourself down and be in the momenT during the day. I have been teaching methods of deep breathing too many patients that should start before they start their workday and continuing during the workday and towards the end of the workday to minimize the migraine intensity or even completely. Dr. Andrew Weil at the university of Arizona is a great reference you can look up online.
