See below: Nasal congestion does not mean you have sleep apnea, for sure. But it can exacerbate it. If you snore, have morning headaches, daytime sleepiness, gasp or choke for breath at night, wake up with a dry mouth, and/or have night time acid reflux, it may be sleep apnea. If so, please consult a sleep medicine specialist for evaluation. At minimum, your nasal congestion can be treated. Hope that helps!

No: If the nose is the only problem, you will simply breathe thru the mouth. The critical blockages occur in the back of the mouth and down the throat.

Hello. : Hello. I am tracking with the need for cartilage to work on a turbinate.  It sounds like much of this is akin to a uvulopalatopharyngoplasty for obstructive sleep apnea.  It is done to make a larger airway. Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (uppp) can include removal of the uvula, part of the roof of the mouth (soft palate) the tonsils, the adenoids and excess tissue in the throat.  My guess is you a big beefy tongue? A number of my patients have undergone a uppp for sleep apnea with good results (it entails a fair amount).

how do i stop my soft palate from clamping shut when i exhale through my nose? it happens during the day when im sitting/standing & i dont snore so i dont suspect sleep apnea. its been going on for a couple months and idk whats causing it?

: After a couple of months without remission, it's more than time to see your PCP or an ENT.  Your situation is the perfect example of why it is important t to have a PCP that knows you, your pre-incident condition, rather than relying on Urgent Care.  Please seek an evaluation.

Sleep apnea?: Sleep apnea happens mostly when you’re ASLEEP.  The fact that is doesn’t happen during the day may be irrelevant.

Nasal dryness: CPAP dries out the nasal membranes, drink more fluids, put some vaseline in your nose before bedtime, and make sure that your device is fitted with a humidifier.  Consider asking your doctor for a nasal steroid spray if clinically indicated, or adjust the pressure of the machine to a lower number.

ever since i had the rhinoplasty (fort sleep apnea) 2 years ago my nose is constantly always congested or swollen i have to use decongestant spray all the time why is this and what can i do to fix it?

See your ENT: Your symptoms are possibly related to the structural changes that occurred from the surgery that may be allowing more access of allergens into the sinuses. You may also be having an additional rebound effect from the nasal spray. Please consider seeing your ENT physician for confirmation of the reason for the problem.

is sleep apnea caused by not getting enough oxygen through my nose or is the problem sourced in my neck? i have chronic nasal congestion.

Not your nose: People with complete nasal blockade will simply begin to breathe through their mouth while asleep. This is not sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is closure of the airway due to obstruction of tissue in the back of the  throat (posterior pharynx) and it requires surgery or continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) to open it.
