Yes: While "dermatitis" is a general term, prolonged hot water bathing can worsen skin inflammation in part by removing natural oils and thus led to itch. Other aspects of bathing such as scented soaps, abrasive scrubs etc. can further worsen dermatitis. Check with your doctor as other causes of itch are possible such as kidney disease or polycythemia (associated with hives after hot water exposure).

: Do you develop hives or a rash during these symptoms? Prickly heat or cholinergic urticaria are possibilities when heat gets trapped in your body or skin. Do anti antihistamines help resolve the symptoms?  Do take off your sweaty clothes for one thing. A dermatologist is best to evaluate &amp; advise you. Any appropriate testing will be ordered.

Hives?: Hard to comment with any certainty.  Much more information needed to give an educated opinion.  If hives are present, the first step is to try a long acting antihistamine such as cetirizine or fexofenadine.  If no rash, the first step is usually to ensure adequate fluid intake and skin moisturizing.

Itch begets itch: Your 5 year old son has sensitive skin and might be dry. There is a term called dermatographism when you turn red in the areas that you scratch.  This redness looks like hives.  There is no known cause, but sometimes heat makes it worse and antihistamines help. Cool refrigerated moisturizers always help too.

??Hives??: Sounds like hives with possibly some angioedema (swelling within the dermis). Also known as urticaria. Try a simple antihistamine to see if this helps, if not, you should have someone look at the rash since this isn't the place to diagnose a rash. Needs to be visualized.
