: This medication is commonly used for skin infections in adults and children. It is perfectly safe for use on a 2 year-old's penis. If he has a history of sensitivity to medications/substances on his skin, watch for any pain, increased swelling, or redness and contact his doctor if he develops any of that (could be increase in infection or reaction to medication).

been taking cephlexin 500mg every 6 hours for skin infection. been 2 weeks and the medication has not helped at all, should i be taking clindamycin?

Inadequate response: If the treatment is not helping, I recommend returning to the prescriber, who saw the infection before, for re-evaluation.    S/he is best positioned to understand what is going on.

Another doctor can evaluate and treat you, but will have less information than the original prescriber

Thirty MInute Rule: I teach my patients, especially those on medications that may cause upset stomachs, if they throw up within thirty minutes after taking a medication they should retake it. If it is longer than thirty minutes they wait to take the next dose when it is due.

Immunocompromised?: do you have any other medical conditions such as diabetes or HIV that would make it harder for your body to heal?..if so your doctor may need to give you a longer course of treatment

Scars : Talk to your doctor.  Sometimes laser treatments can greatly improve the appearance of scars.

Check out CDC: 1st the CDC (center for disease control) has a GREAT website resource for you.  Look up CDC MRSA.  You could be considered infectious.  Soap on your body may reduce MRSA, you may use alcohol to spot kill MRSA on your body.  Bleach will kill MRSA on floors etc.  Hot water and soap should reduce or neutralize most MRSA on laundry. MRSA now occurs in our environment- no way to "remove" it. Be well.

See a doctor: Need to see a doctor and get on the right type of antibiotics and or  incision and drainage.

If it is an: Infection, it could be fungal, viral, or bacterial.  If it is inflammation, it could be allergic or irritation.  Treatment really depends on maing correct diagnosis, so go see a skin doctor, dermatologist.
