Yes: While the diagnosis sounds complicated, situs inversus simply indicates that the internal organs are arranged in a mirror image pattern. In that setting, dextrocardia, a right sided heart, is expected.  So the only problem is a deficient atrial septum. Problems may arise during pregnancy and close follow up with a maternal fetal specialist is necessary, but there is a good chance of a healthy baby.

EKG changes: If you get an EKG, let the tech know so the leads are placed correctly.  Also gallbladder pain will be on the left not right.  Appendix pain would be on the left not right.

Situs Inversus: Is a reversal of the ”sidedness” of the abdominal organs, and sometimes has implications on the heart and lungs. Many patients can have associated congenital heart disease, and many have an absent or dysfunctional spleen. This can lead to susceptibility to infections. Also, the gut can be rotated abnormally, which can cause intestinal obstruction. These problems should be screened for by your md.

Nothing needed: True situs inversus is a rare condition in  which the normal organs are just reversed in position, right side to the left side. There is no treatment needed and nothing that he would suffer from. He can live a full normal life as much as we are all able to do.
