Recheck: Some antibiotics and sinus infections can alter taste and smell. Should you have worsening sinus symptoms or worsening taste, reconsultation with your doctor is recommended. Otherwise once you are done with the sinus infection and the antibiotic the smell should go away.

Possibly: Lost of taste and smell is one of the symptoms of COVID, however pos not diagnostic. Other symptoms are fever, cough, shortness of breadth, abdominal pain with diarrhea. I would see your PCP to be throughly evaluated. In the mean time quarantine yourself till you are sure you don’t have the virus

Strep and Staf: The bacteria that are the usual causes these infections are enteric bacteria.The smell you smell is the byproducts from the breakdown of  tissue in your body.Mainly the rotten smell comes from the sulpher residues in protein.

Anosmia: Causes broadly fall in 3 categories:  post-head trauma, anatomic nasal obstruction, or olfactory nerve dysfunction.  Obstruction can be from chronic sinusitis or nasal allergies.  Nerve dysfunction is usually post-viral after a common cold.  See an ENT for a thorough nasal exam and possibly a scan.

: A severe paranasal sinus infection can result in a loss of smell which will also affect your sense of taste. Of course in this pandemic, Covid virus infection can do the same. Did you have any other symptoms of Covid?  Hopefully your sense of smell will gradually return.
