Strep and Staf: The bacteria that are the usual causes these infections are enteric bacteria.The smell you smell is the byproducts from the breakdown of tissue in your body.Mainly the rotten smell comes from the sulpher residues in protein.

It's rotten: You could have a fairly noxious bacteria or fungus in your sinuses. Try irrigating with a sinus rinse bottle or netti pot. See an ent.
