Oxygen free radicals: Oxygen in high concentrations cause oxygen to breakdown and form oxygen free radicals which can damage cells in the body.  In premature infants, this can lead to what is called retinopathy of prematurity.

Depends: If unilateral, the ;poorly sighted eye will start to drift  - usually inwards.  If both eyes, sometimes the eyes are obviously deformed, small or discolored but if a deeper loss, the infant will not respond in the usual way to mother's face, will not reach for things, simply will not seem to use the eyes, will not react to turning on the light and will only react to other senses like hearing.

I suggest you read the book by oliver sacks, M.D. Called the "island of the colorblind."  his insight is fantastic as both a neurologist and one who had experienced occasional bouts of colorblindness associated with ocular migraines.

Not much: If an eye is truly blind, in most cases, there is no way to reverse the loss of vision.  If only in one eye, you should be extra careful with the other eye, and be examined frequently.  The "symptom" of true blindness is lack of light perception but there are varying degrees of vision loss, some of which can be improved with treatment.

TIA: She is at risk for a possible stroke, as if this is transient, if may indicated decreased blood flow through retinal artery, but if constant, could be completed event, or ocular problem, such as cataract, glaucoma, retinal detachment.  She needs immediate full evaluation, do not hesitate.  Time is of the essence.

Get an eye exam: The term "blindness" can be interpreted in many different ways. Central vision can be impaired by a simple need for glasses, and the problem can be easily solved. Peripheral vision loss is more unusual, and typically does have an underlying cause of more significance.  Only through an eye exam can a disease process by diagnosed and treated.

Depends upon age: Obviously inability to distinguish between red / green colors. Some have trouble with blue/yellow. It does assume the child knows his colors. I am not aware of a condition where no colors are seen. These are usually specific to certain colors.
