Good question!: Sighing is a spontaneous deep inhalation and exhalation.  We think that it helps to increase blood oxygen levels and inflate the lung to capacity.  Sighing can be associated with certain moods and does not appear to be serious.  All in all it is probably a helpful maneuveur for your lung health!
