primary healing is faster - through surgery - the fracture is reduced, fixated and heals 4-5 weeks.
secondary healing is slower - the bone is not fixated - may be casted, the body forms a blood clot that calcifies and becomes bone. 6-8 weeks

About 6 weeks : Typically about 6 weeks.   This can take longer if you have diabetes, poor bone quality or smoke.

NOT RECOMENDED: Spiral fractures take time to heal. Usual crutches are given to avoid weight bearing. If you bear weight on the fracture it will delay healing and may worsen the underlying problem .

Reinjury vs flare: Any old injury can flare up. The integrity of the tissues, once compromised by prior injury, is subject to reinjury or flare. If pain persists, go see treating doc.

Can persist : Swelling after an ankle fracture can persist for months AFTER the fracture has healed ; whether the fracture required surgery or not. Be patient and incorporate rom and strengthening exercises to help. If swelling persists longer than 6 months see your orthopedic surgeon for evaluation. Best of Luck!

Depends: Normal bone will heal in around 6 weeks.  If there is space or gapping between the fracture ends, it may take longer for new bone to bridge the gap.  Also, certain medical conditions and medications can delay bone healing.

Likely: Normal variation. It probably has to do with functional variation in use as we see typically in the upper extremities with the dominant side stronger than the non dominant side.

i fractured my ankle i think it is fibula almost six weeks ago  still in cast but when i walk it swell's bad and hurts to the point i have to lay and elevate is this normal? also it hurts worse on the other side of ankle wise than fractured side?

: If your healing process is not proceeding as planned, it is appropriate to contact your orthopedic surgeon and get this re-evaluated.  In some cases Complex Regional Pain Syndrome may interfere with recovery, and if this is present, you need diagnosis and intervention ASAP.  Hope this can be reversed readily.
