Possibly beginning: U say you're at 38 wks. U could be just getting diahrrea. Speak to your Ob tomorrow AM and be evaluated.

Well: Some women get a burst of energy, not all, on some the water breaks, in some lose their mucous plug and in others they just start with contractions. Every labor is different, even for the same woman!

Please ask your OB: Any regular contractions or increased discharge, if u and baby is ok if u go into labor before 37 weeks  then your doc will try to stop it, if your water breaks then it won't be stopped, so if u are worried call now so premature labor can be prevented rather than treated, and i always get an ultrasound on all of my pts between 34-36 weeks so i know what is going on, and don't go past your due date.

See your doctor: At 42 weeks, you should be induced.  Call your doctor and insist on being indused as soon as possible.

Sleepiness: Sleepiness is not a usual sign of imminent labor, but could represent lack of sleep, need for additional sleep or rest.  If it was present pre-pregnancy then it may be due to other causes.  You probably want to speak to your obstetrician.

Cramping, nausea: Most frequently women are going to say that they have menstrual cramping or tightening. Sometimes women notice loose stools or nausea as a sign as well.

Your : Your fetusâ€™s head tends to hang out in the upper part of the pelvis until the baby gets close to labor, at which point, the fetal head drops into the lower part of the pelvis.  The doctor or midwife can feel this on external exam, because the head is no longer wobbling around above the fetal bone but has dropped down below it.  It can also be assessed on pelvic exam as â€œstation, â€ meaning how far down the baby has dropped. You may also be able to tell if the baby has dropped because your belly may change shape.

So what does it mean if the baby drops? Usually it means the baby is getting ready for labor, but the amount of time between when the baby drops and when labor begins varies. If the baby drops prematurely, you may be put on bed rest, but that still doesnâ€™t mean labor is inevitable. However, when the baby drops at full term, in combination with painful contractions that become regular or a broken water bag, the time is coming. Keep in mind that mothers who have given birth many times may go into labor without having the baby drop until the cervix is almost fully dilated. But if the baby drops and itâ€™s your first, itâ€™s a good sign that the time to meet your baby is approaching.
