12-24 hrs: to stop diarrhea. Stop stool softener while you have diarrhea.

Rule out antibiotics: The mucus suggests coliitis. Are you taking antibiotics? If so you would be at risk for c diff colitis which needs specific treatment. 
if you have no fever, have no crampy pains, and are generally ok taking plenty of fluids and immodium you should be okay but do not hesitate to seek medical advice if things get worse.

had sgmoidoscopy due to diarrhea waiting on microbiopsy results taking imodium (loperamide) as still have diarrhea how long do i have to take this.

Until symptoms gone: Imodium (loperamide) should be used only for the duration of your symptoms. Infectious causes should be ruled out and drugs that can cause diarrhea, Metformin among others, should be on hold. Hopefully, biopsies will reveal the cause of your diarrhea.

Not needed usually: Traveller's diarrhoea is self limiting disease usually, so antibiotics is not needed for it. If it persists, a stool sample is needed to be tested first and then antibiotics is given according to the result.
Imodium has no place in treatment of acute self limiting diarrhoea, as it treats the symptom not the cause of it.

Managing symptoms: Diarrhea is the body's way of 'getting rid' of poisons-whether that's from food poisoning or germs having a field day at your expense. I am NOT actually an advocate of treating these symptoms, since believe it or not, you want the body to do it's thing and get rid of the germs or toxins. Hyoscine or scopolamine butylbromide (Buscopan) may be too much at this point. I would hold off. See doc if bad

Colonoscopy: with biopsies plus stool culture and stool analysis for ova and parasites. Needs full workup for IBS/ulcerative colitis and Chron's.

Antibiotic  diarrhea: No. Test  for C difficile  a bacteria  associated with antibiotic induced diarrhea. If c diff  treat with  Flagyl/ vancomycin .  Consider changing medication or  stopping  the med  . Sometimes  metamucil may also  give bulk (even though it is used  for constipation) as it absorbs water. keep hydrated. Call  your doc today and discuss

No: If you have diarrhea from salmonella, you can take clear liquids and a bland diet until the diarrhea resolves. You should not take imodium, (loperamide) as it will hold the bacteria in with the stool and cause your body to take extra time to clear it out of your system. If you develop fever, abdominal pain or blood in the stool you should see a doctor right away.

This is actually called the  brat diet.

: Clindamycin, like all antibiotics, can cause diarrhea. This diarrhea can be concerning and may need another antibiotic to treat it. I highly recommend can contact a doctor as soon as you can. You may need to stop the clindamycin right away-.
