Carpal tunnel?: You might be sleeping on your hands & arms in such a way as to bend them wrong for a prolonged period of time that aggravates some nerves. Carpal tunnel syndrome is compression of the median nerve in the wrist. Poorly controlled diabetes along w/some vitamin deficiencies can also cause numbness & tingling but usually not just during sleep. Regardless, go see your family doc for an evaluation.

every time i go to sleep my arm and hand falls asleep and my hand swelled up and hurts do bad it wakes me up and when i wake up i can't even close my hand what is it?

Nerve compression: The position you sleep in may be causing compression of a neurovascular bundle. The nerves and blood vessels that supply the hand and forearm pass into the arm under the pectoralis muscle and may be getting squeezed by sleeping on your side in a scrunched up position. Doing pect stretches before bed may help.

Correct Position: The sensation of a part of the body "falling asleep" is usually caused by compression of the nerve that enervates that area. Check the position of the hand during the night and during the day when the symptoms occur. Since there are other conditions that might cause this problem, best to schedule an appointment with your primary care physician for a detailed exam.

: If you have seen several neurologists who could not make a diagnosis with thorough exams and tests, it would be ridiculous for us to voice our opinion. Please request for a neurology referral to a tertiary, academic center if you have not. Good luck.

Most likely due to Sleep Disorder from One being under Stress and /or not getting enough regular sleep time. One should see a Sleep Study Expert and possibly a Neurologist as One would not want to 'fall asleep, just like that' while driving. Do it soon please

Be seen: I would not hesitate to be seen.  There may be more than one condition contributing, or they may all be stemming from one systemic condition.  A nerve conduction test would probably be helpful in addition to being seen and examined.

Circumstances: This isa common issue but can vary in cause.  So if the entire hand falls asleep, that means that there are two-three major nerves being impinged upon.  You are not describing hand goes cold or one would have to think about circulation.  So typically if the entire hand is asleep there is problem with nerves... Can be at level of wrist, elbow, shoulder or neck.  Check for injury and other issues.
