Visit Ortho Surgery: I would encourage you to visit an orthopaedic surgeon. There are several types of foot fractures that are commonly misdiagnosed as ankle sprain. 
Some fractures are not picked up and require another view of the ankle on x-ray or a CT scan. You may also have a Lisfranc injury of your midfoot. Good luck.

Not likely: If there is one lump that has not changed in two years, it is not likely to be bone cancer.

Bone Ca: Can be primary, aclled osteo- or chondrosarcoma. Quite rare.  Cancer originating in any organ can metastasize or 'spread' to bones, so it is by definition spread. Then there is myeloma, actually arising from the plasma cell in bone marrow, that causes 'punched out lesions' of bone. Sarcomas also spread to lungs.

Many different types: There are many different types of bone cancers.  There are no good screening tests for vast majority of such tumors.  One exception being multiple myeloma for which serum protein electrophoresis and free serum light chain tests provide a decent test.  Multiple myeloma usually occurs in persons older than 40 years.

Treat if possible: Secondary  bone cancer is one of the common sites of cancer spread.  What spreads to  bone remains in bone possibly progressing and enlarging to periosteum to produce pain.  If localized, RT  given to reduce pain.  If at multiple sites, chemo is offered if susceptible .  This is true of breast cancer that can remain in bone and respond for up to 10 yrs. Other lesions such as lung to bone do poorly
