Cure infection: The way is to cure the infection, in the mean time you can try warm compresses and tylenol (acetaminophen) or alieve (. Unless their is a contraindication to your taking one of them.

Not much: This is a description used more to acknowledge that they are evident in a particular location but not of a size or character that deserves any special attention.

Not "normal" but...: Not necessarily ominous! sounds like, despite your doctor's reassurance, you're losing sleep over these "shoddy nodes"!  would you be willing to go to the trouble and expense of getting a biopsy? I think that would address your worst fears, then maybe you could let it go? ...Or get a second opinion from a specialist in infectious disease or internal medicine.

Cyst?: Sounds like you may have developed a sebaceous cyst.  I would suggest that you see your family physician and get a referral to a plastic surgeon in excise it. I mention a plastic surgeon because of the nature of the site and you want a nice healed area.

Easy does it buddy!: You don't have HIV. You're probably really good at feeling your lymph nodes -- everybody's got them. For folliculitis of the scalp -- I've had it for a lifetime, from pityrosporum. Stay ahead of it with ketoconazole shampoo if that's what you have as well. Find a gym or your favorite sport, hang out with athletes focused on health rather than sickness, work hard, and you'll stop feeling like this.

: You can watch and wait. You may feel the nodes every couple of weeks, if any of the lymph glands doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other nodes become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor. Wish you good health!

Stop worrying: If this was hodgkin's, you'd know it by now. Every lean man your age has some palpable lymph nodes, often like yours.

Cancer is scary: All men your age have some palpable lymph nodes. If this was cancer, it would be one of the malignant lymphomas and you'd know you are seriously sick as the nodes would enlarge greatly or you'd feel terrible. However, I have a sense that you do have symptoms, and the next step might be testing for infectious mono, toxo, CMV and hiv; if you can find a surgeon to biopsy a node, it's your option.

Not necessarily: Shotty or small lymph nodes (<1 cm) may not be abnormal.  However if they subsequently grow, then that may warrant more investigation.
