Scalene the pain: Hope you pardon the pun. The scalene muscles live on both sides of neck. Ive seen thousands of patients who report neck pain/discomfort and without fail, always the scalene muscles are so tight they are painful. get them stretched out. keep your shoulders down and neck stretched up. even when lifting with arms, keep your shoulders down. find s scalene muscle stretch from local physical therapist

i have tight sharp pain in my right side of neck only when i breath in if i lay on my right side it is much worse?

Hmmmmm.: perhaps it is a neck muscle spasm. spasms can be very painful; try some moist heat, perhaps some gentle stretching, and gentle massage.  Not sure why it is worse when you breath in.  As with anything else, if it persists, becomes very severe, or you develop shortness of breath, see your physician.

Muscle spasm vs.nerv: You will need an orthopedic surgfeon exam mto be certain, however, if you have a simple muscle spasm then ibprofin and warm compresses may be helpful.

Sniff or sneeze?: a vigorous sneeze might strain some muscles, do not worry it will go away.  Sniffing should not do it

Vision and headaches: ,if there is associated pain or tenderness on your temples,should worry about temporal arteries,need to see an opthlmologist soon,but your symptom of neck pain ,unlikely to cause vision,changes,with headaches,you have to be evaluated for a blood vessel disease,or autoimmune condition,may be nothing but err on caution

Pinched nerve: Sharp pain starting in the neck and radiating to the skull or down the arm suggests pinched nerves from either spurs or disc problems in the neck. Your md could advise you and schedule x-rays of the neck and possible MRI of the neck for proper diagnosis. In the meantime wearing a soft neck collar.

Pleurisy: good news,  it is not your heart.
what you are describing is what we call pleurisy, or pleuritic type chest pain.  it comes from inflammation/irritation of the lining of the lung.  it can at times if irritates the diaphragm , refer pain to upper shoulder/neck area (called Kehrs, sign).  benign mostly, and no therapy needed. if prolonged pain (not norm) then anti-inflammatorys may help

GERD: While the causes for RUQ pain includes many gastric conditions, more common things like GERD or Gastric Reflex Disease need to be ruled out first. Gastric paresis, slowing of gastric motility following an infection etc may be another. The pain in the neck may be a referred pain from a nerve in your diaphragm, near your stomach. If your symptoms persist despite OTC meds for a few days, get checked.

See below : Hi there, sounds like a muscular problem related to the shoulder issue, don’t worry, if the shoulder issue was resolved properly by a doctor, the neck pain will go away, you could try off the counter pain relief medicine like Advil and put some warm pads over it and/or some pain relief cream. It should go away in 3-5 days.

not serious pain, but sharp pain in ear and back of right side of neck, above right eyebrow and throat. raspier voice sometimes. what could this be?

Need more info: How long have you had it? What was inciting factors leading up to it? How long have you had the raspier voice? When did the pain start? Do you have associated findings, like head ache, jaw ache, TMJ ache, sinusitis, trauma? The more info we have, the better we can assist you.
