Benign: A serous cyst is one that produces a thin watery fluid (like serum, hence serous) - they are benign and do not spread.  They can cause problems due to location and/or size and typically only get bigger with time, they do not go away on their own.

Still, it isn't a true cancer so she doesn't need any other treatment other than close monitoring. Still, she should consider her family building options and consider oocyte or embryo cryopreservation if she isn't trying to get pregnant soon because this can recur.

No: A simple cyst has a very specific benign appearance, while a cystadenocarcinoma usually has characteristics that are pathognomonic for a complex mass. A benign hemorrhagic cyst may resemble a worrisome cystadenoca. If you are worried about an ovarian cyst, talk to your doctor. You can do an ultrasound in 4-6 weeks. If it is a cancer, it will not be the same size or have the same characteristics.

Surgical removal: The next step is to have the cystadenoma removed. This can be done laparoscopically as a day surgery. This is a benign tumor but it should be removed. I am curious how they know it is a serous cystadenoma. That is not something we usually know until after the specimen is removed.

Depending on their growth progression, they should probably be removed surgically, but it sounds like your's may have already been excised. If the pathologist found only benign cells, then is cured.

Clean up: When removing an ovarian cyst the goal is usually to remove the cyst without removing the entire ovary. Sometimes that is not possible. If the cyst ruptures then the doctor will irrigate the area and remove the fluid contained within it. For most benign ovarian cysts this is not going to cause a problem for the patient.

Maybe....: How are they sure this is a cystadenoma?  If it really is one, it should be removed. It will continue to grow and there's a slight chance of cancer.
