Lung cancer survival: Compared to other cancers in a head-to-head comparison, deaths from lung cancer actually trail cancers of the liver, pancreas, or certain rare aggressive sarcomas. However there is a greater percentage of the population who have lung cancer compared to any of the previously mentioned neoplasms. Survival is most often quoted at only 4% of those diagnosed at 5 years.

Yes: Radiation is used in curing lung cancer.  Its used in varying combinations with surger and chemotherapy to find the best treatment for each stage and type of lung cancer.  It is not used in every case of lung cancer to accomplish the desired effect.  Stage one for example requires no radiation and would not help the survival if the patient has surgery with lobectomy.

Depends: I am going to assume this is stage ii non-small-cell and not of an unusual type (i.e., it is squamous cell or adenocarcinoma).  The straight odds of a 5-year survival are much better than they used to be -- almost 50%, but the pathologist's report and gene studies will alter this some. Need more info!: What type of lung cancer? Different types have different survival rates. That being said, the average 5 year survival for all stage 2 lung cancers is 40-50%. Just remember what mark twain had to say about statistics: "there are 3 kinds of lies: lies, damn lies, and statistics!" statistics apply to groups. Individual experiences can, and do, vary.

About odds: We don't usually speak of "cure" when we're dealing with cancer, especially something as treacherous as lung cancer.
