Pressure: Put pressure on the area and call your doctor. You may need to go back in and have the doctor look at him.

Cyst: Sebacious cysts usually don't bleed. They are filled with cheese like material that occasionally can get infected and turns into pus. If it is bleeding, it needs to be examined as there may be something else going on. Pressure to the cyst for the time being may help stop it, but seek medical attention promptly.

my sebaceous cyst felt crusty. i absentmindedly was rubbing it when i noticed a big piece came off. it was bleeding a little. is this normal?

Cyst: May happen. Suggest you see a dermatologist to check it out. If it gets red or painful, you would need antibiotics

how long can i leave the waterproof dressing on after a sebaceous cyst excision? the dressing was put on 2 days ago and have a follow up appointment with the doctor in 3 days. so far, there is no sign of bleeding or wetness. can i leave it till then?

: I would not. Sutured areas need exposure to air or simple skin germs left under the dressing can invade. Remove the dressing and monitor the sight. Clean &amp; dry it gently if there is any debris/oozing. Cover as needed. Let the doc know if there is excessive redness, 
 swelling  or drainage.

Acute post-op phase: You can't really judge things this early following a procedure.  If you are concerned, talk to your surgeon.

i had a sebaceous cyst removed 5 days ago and its still sore and causing me pain and today it discharged a bloody, clearish liquid. is this normal?

Probably: Light discharge of blood-tinged clear watery fluid is normal after most skin procedures.  Sebaceous cysts are often quite deep, and the wounds left can be sore for weeks.  Redness of the skin surrounding an incision, especially if spreading, is not normal, but a small area immediately surrounding each stitch can get a little pink.  White discharge is not normal.  Fever is not normal.

i had a sebaceous cyst removed 6 weeks ago and still have a red mark from the incision/sutures. is this normal or should i follow up with doctor?

Probably nornmal: Many scars remain reddish and firm for 3-4 months. If it is not very painful to touch, and the redness is limited to the area around the incision and isn't spreading, it is probably normal. If you have any concern, though, contact your physician.

Accepted Answer

Yes: At the very least there will be local anesthesia.  General anesthesia is unlikely unless it is a huge cyst.  Sedation or twilight is possible.  Best to talk to your surgeon about this!
