Scars: Surgical scars can diminish and remodel over a time of 3-6 months after surgery, and will even continue to heal and change over a year from surgery. There are scar ointments or patches than you can try from the drug store if you are concerned (mederma, or silicone scar sheet).

Rarely: If you had a ruptured appendix that can sometimes cause more scar tissue.

Abdominal pain: Adhesions are common after any surgical procedure. If you had an appendectomy, I would expect your adhesion pain to be on your right side. Groin pain is more likely musculoskelatal, lymph nodes or hernia.

Depends....: On how much scar tissue, ability and safety of laparoscopy approach, technical skill and experience of surgeon, and ability to get to, maneuver, identify anatomical structures through laparoscope. About 10% of lap approaches get converted to open at time of surgery- can't get there from here safely.

Highly Unlikely: It is quite common to do laparoscopic surgery on people with your prior operations. We take appropriate safety measures to try & anticipate the extent and location of your scar tissue; it rarely interferes with our operation to the point where open surgery would be necessary.  Of course, results vary based on the experience of your surgeon--ask them their "conversion rate".  Good luck!

Call your surgeon: It may be infected.  Get in to see your surgeon as soon as possible.  Most likely it will not require further surgery, only wound care.

my daughter had an appendectomy 4 weeks ago and has what looks like suture strings coming out of two of her healed scars. is this normal?

Mgt: It depends on the type of suture material.  I would suggest calling the surgeon's office. If the wound looks well healed the material can be removed.
Some sutures dissolve with time.

i have had very mild to moderate pain on my right side of about 10 months off and on, very close to my appendectomy scar, could it be a cyst?

No such entity: If your pain is getting worse, then you need to have a medical examination done either by your PCP(Family Physician) or by your Gynecologist. it is hard to guess the cause of a pain like this unless it is on the scar itself which does remain sensitive for 1 to 2 years after surgery(I assume that you have had a recent appendectomy done...?date)

Appendectomy: If the scar is still hurting it really depends on the time from surgery. Scar pain after surgery for two to three weeks is normal. If you are months out then you need to contact the surgery and make sure there is no infection or other possible problems.

Scars: Can be tender for many months. What you describe is normal.
