Black Plague: Plague has been recorded since 541 AD when there was no understanding about bacterial infections and how to prevent them. The major sanitation I am aware of was when bodies were removed and buried in the ground.

No: Doesn't matter. Soapy water will penetrate both sides.

i recently got tattooed by a friend. the gun was boiled for 20 minutes, new needles, ink, and sanitation. no one has hepatitis but can still get it?

Accepted Answer

Cannot tell: Tatoos are a risk factor for acquiring hepatitis c. Sometimes it is contaminated ink while other times it is not adequately sterilized equipment. Not sure if 20 min of boiling is adequate.

small cut @ salon from nail file. cleaned it w/ soap and water. nail tech put some sort of glue on it. not sure about sanitation conditions. hep risk?

Unlikely: It is possible to transmit infections through a cut but unlikely to come from a nail file unless it had another persons blood on it.  You did the best thing which was to wash with soap and water.  Anything is possible but it would be highly unlikely for you to have contracted an infection from this event.

Yes: Keeping clean, cooking food thoroughly, and staying away from sick people are reliable ways to reduce bacterial infections. A bath or shower washes away bacteria than cause impetigo. Washing hands after using the bathroom (and washing hands before eating) helps prevent infections like typhoid and cholera. Not getting cough or sneezed on helps prevent illnesses like strep throat and whooping cough.

hi doctor, i am concerned. the nail technician used the cuticle scissors and cut my cuticles too deep, and i bled. im not sure if they follow proper sanitation procedures. am i at risk of contracting hiv? or any other diseases?

: Nobody has ever caught HIV from wounds during cosmetic procedures, and probably no other blood borne infections either. Don't worry about it!

Contact dermatitis?: Sounds like you are having a reaction to the chemicals in the solutions that you are using at your new job.  Would recommend trying 'platex gloves' when washing the dishes and/or asking your supervisor to use a different agent.  This can become severe and risk infection.  You may need to see a doctor for steroid cream or antihistamines as well as conservative care above.

Please see your GP: Any lesion of that kind deserves further consideration, leading to proper diagnosis and treatment. There must be a need for observation of the lesion,  swab for culture of microorganisms, cell typification, dna studies, etc. Please do not wait to take care of the problem, since delaying diagnosis may change treatment options.
