Furthermore, when having a mammogram it is important to go to a facility with experience performing mammograms on augmented breasts.

Saline 'rocks": Saline does not cause problems when it "infiltrates" into the body accidently. The only major issue if any is a sudden "rupture" of the implants from a blow to the chest such as a auto accident air bag or steering wheel. Saline is easily absorbed by the body as opposed to silicone. Talk to a plastic surgeon about these choices before you place all your "rocks"($$) into the "barrel".

Varies: In general, silicone implants look, act and feel more natural.  However, it depends on the size of the breast implant and how much native breast tissue a woman has as to how much of the implant you feel.  For example, a woman with an a cup preoperatively who gets a larger implant, the feel is mostly determined by the implant.  If you have larger native breasts and smaller implants, it matters less.

For most people: There is not much difference between saline and silicone implants. All implants are wrinkled, but saline seem more wrinkly because they are filled with salt water. Silicone implants are filled with a gel that is thicker, so the wrinkling is not as apparent. This is only an issue in very thin patients, where the wrinkling may be noticeable (but usually not in clothes or a swimsuit.).

Pros and Cons: Both are acceptable.  For silicone:
PROS:  Less of an edge, so harder to "feel" them when touching breast; no rippling; lighter; "more natural" contour (slopes down at top) -- this varies
CONS:  Require slightly larger incision, not size-adjustable, cost more (about $1000 depending on brand/size/type), requires MRIs in future for breast screening instead of mammograms.

The : The safety of silicone filled breast implants has been verified by the us food and drug administration after years of studying their use in the us. They were used in europe and the rest of world the entire time they were banned in the us. They were found not to cause connective tissue diseases like lupus, fibromyalgia, etc but their use in patients who already have these conditions is not recommended. They were allowed back into the us after years of careful study and clinical trials.

Breast implants may enhance a women's appearance but like any medically implanted device may eventually require replacement, removal, become infected or develop a scar contracture. The decision to have breast implants should be thoroughly discussed with a surgeon certified by the american board of plastic surgery and a member of the american society of plastic surgeons.
