RV strain: My personal opinion is that the pericardium serves to protect the heart inside the chest cavity but just as importantly, constrains the rv during acute overload (i.e. Sudden increase in venous return during exercise) which might cause the rv to fail.

Yes: People live fine without a pericardial sac.   It is often removed, or partially removed, with bypass surgery, which is quite common.

Accepted Answer

Not likely: Pericarditis is inflammation of the pericardial sac surrounding the heart. It may be associated with fluid accumulation. As the fluid increase it causes the heart to be compressed resulting in shock, this is known as tamponade and requires immediate drainage.

Don't worry: Yes, it is probably too early. If the technicians/doctors  were not worried - you don't need to be. Continue to take good care of yourself and at the next appointment ask them for reassurance. You'll probably get it. Congratulations!

Early Preg: Best thing to do is to wait 7-10 days and then repeat the ultrasound.  Also, blood pregnancy tests done 48 hours apart can also tell if the pregnancy is normal or failed.

Doomed pregnancy?: Ideally, in a viable pregnancy the gestational sac is spherical and is located in the fundus, the upper part of the uterus, and the fetus' heart rate is above 100 bpm. In your case two out of these three criteria are not met, raising concern that the pregnancy may end in a miscarriage. At the end of the day what is important, though, is the absence of bleeding and cramping.

Sac size: Sac size is much less reliable than crown rump length and your fetal heart rate is fine.  Don't worry about the sac size.  Very common to see one either larger or smaller than the fetus.

my gestational sac is measuring 2 weeks behind babies crl at 16mm. the crl is perfect at 15mm and heart beat was 138 at 7w6d. there is only a 1mm difference between the 2 should i be worried?

: I gave you the statistic numbers in the previous answer. The difference of less than 5 mm carries a high miscarriage rate. Please discuss with your OB doctor. Take care!

i had a light spotting just enough to wipe away on tissue and it went away went to the e.r im 6 weeks and 6 days the babys heart rate is 107 but they were saying the yolk sac measures 0.17cm and it was collapsed should i be worried?
