how do i stop sever root canal pain? i'm allergic to lidocaine and no dentist will work on me. this is my second time going through this pain.

Lidocaine allergy?: While possible, I have yet to have a patient truly allergic to lidocaine. More often than not, patients have a reaction to the Adrenalin in the local anesthetic and say they are "allergic" to it. There are other types of local anesthetics available. See an allergist for testing. Research endodontists in your area. Perhaps a local dental school or hospital based dental residency program.

is it possible to work on two teeth at the same time during a root canal procedure?

Accepted Answer

Yes: The number of teeth being worked on has no effect on the outcome of the root canal procedure as long as the patient can tolerate the procedures and numbness (if necessary) in multiple areas of the mouth.  Many patients prefer longer appointments to get more treatment completed.

i have had a metallic taste in my mouth for over a year, i thought it was dental related, but i had deep cleaning, root canal but still have metallic taste. only thing i can think of is my thyroid levels were off last time i had blood work?

: Are you taking supplemental iodine. Iodine intake can cause metallic taste in the mouth.

Nothing much do not: after root canal I would stay away from loading that tooth and as long as endodontist agrees with this thought . Good luck

i'm getting a root canal and a build up, but i can't afford the crown yet. what shouldn't i eat after i get the build up? what's recovery like?

Accepted Answer

Anything really hard: The need for the crown varies a bit depending on which tooth is involved, the state of your occlusion, and how extensively restored the tooth is after the root canal but in any case avoid chewing ice, frozen candy bars, or chomping hard candy for the best outcome. Often, it's an accidental encounter with a small stone or bone chip that can fracture a post-root canal tooth without a crown.

after root canal treatment, should we refrain from exercise to give our bodies a rest?  would too much rest slow down recovery?

Accepted Answer

No problems: Unless your dentist has specifically instructed you to refrain from exercising, moderate physical activity should not affect your procedure. Too much rest would not slow down the recovery.

i am hiv +, undetect, cd4 865, i also have genital herpes but take valtrex for it. i had a root canal done and developed sinus infect, bronchitis. taking 1 week now bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) clyndamicyn, poor recovery.

Please see your Dr.: You should be examined by your infectious disease doctor as soon as possible to see if something is going on with your immune system and possibly to repeat lab work for t cell counts.

Nerve is removed: The canal or canals inside the root are accessed and the nerve artery and vein are removed and the canalis cleaned out, enlarged and sealed usually with a rubberlike material.

is it okay to go to work after a root canal?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but depends: It depends on how you feel afterward.  Most of my patient (&gt;90%) go to work the next day without any issue.  Only about 1-2% are what we called flare-up cases.  These require a second office visit for some incision and drainage or decompression.  Or, they may need prescription for additional medication. Work with your doctor with the schedule if you are concerned about not being able to work.

could i go back to work right after a root canal?

Accepted Answer

Usually yes: After root canal surgery, you should be able to return to work quickly. However, this will also depend on the type of anesthesia used. Consult with your oral surgeon or dentist.
