The cause is not clear, but it usually occurs in children with chicken pox or the flu who receive Aspirin for fever. The symptoms include nausea and vomiting, with confusion, lethargy, disorientation, and agitation.Can lead to a state of coma and death. The best prevention is to not use Aspirin to reduce your child's fever.

Reye's syndrome: is fortunately a very rare disorder that requires hospital treatment. It is mostly supportive care with IV fluids, glucose, diuretics, antiseizure medicines, etc.  There is no cure.  It is just supporting the patient through the acute phase and hopefully to recovery.

He'd be dead or ICU: Reye's syndrome was mostly seen in the 1980's, with children having sudden liver failure. It was associated with the use of Aspirin during certain viral infections (flu and chickenpox). Most of these kids died, and all were very, very ill. If your child isn't critically, it is not reye's syndrome. For reasons we don't fully understand, reye's syndrome seems to have largely disappeared.

It is not: the aspirin alone but when a person has influenza and takes aspirin together.  It is usually several days into infection that the first symptoms develop. Unlikely: Reye syndrome is a rare complication  to flu or chickenpox that is treated with aspirin or aspirin derived products. Less than 10% of maternal intake is transferred in the milk. Aspirin is considered a marginal but acceptable maternal drug during BF. Babies this age get congested/sneezy  from inhaled irritants like dust/fragrance.

Sensory overload: People with asperger's syndrome are often very sensitive to pharmaceutical medications.  But, some use low doses of antipsychotics such as Risperdal or seroquel (quetiapine) to help with sensory overload.  For more clear anxiety-related complaints, low-dose ssri's might be tried.  Some patients may not tolerate any of these -- and classical homeopathy with a well-trained homeopath could then be an option.
