Low response: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your reticulocyte count suggests a low response, unless your hemoglobin is already normal.

: I do not know what IRF means in Brunei. MCV suggests low iron anemia.  But not certain what MCV means in Brunei either. Discuss with your local Drs who will understand the abbreviations.  Never use abbreviations in medical notes as can be deadly.

is there a difference between ridaq and adco retic? my listed chronic med is ridaq which i'm suppose to take 1 tablet a day but my doc gives me adco retic which i should only take half.

High blood pressure : Ridaq is a single salt medication for blood pressure control. Adco-retic is combination of ridaq and amiloride. Your doctor seems to be trying you on a lower dose of combination pill and can adjust the dose after monitoring your response to it.

Appears fine: Depending upon the lab where the tests where drawn a HGB of 12.8 could be normal. Rbc and hct above appear normal as does the retic count and haptoglobin levels. Irf ranges between labs may vary but usually include 9 and 10 as within normal. Overall i would say there are no abnormal values in the ones presented above.

my 5 yo son is having a work up for hgb trait or disorder. just got some results back and ldh is 500. should i be very concerned? his retic high too.

Suggests RBC damage: An elevated retic suggests that the body is making new red bloods cells at a faster pace than average.  Ldh is an enzyme found in many different tissues in the body, type 1 is predominant in rbc's and heart, so an elevated count supports that there is cell damage to the rbcs, but the elevated ldh is not damaging to the body itself.  Your son's doctor is testing to find the cause.  Best wishes.

: You should definitely speak with your physician regarding your high blood pressure and what would be safe to take as there are definite risks to both you and baby with untreated high blood pressure.

Depends.: Retic count should be 1% with a normal Hgb.  For a 70 y/o male, that would be about 13.  As Hgb goes down young red cells (retics) should go up to correct the deficit. In this case about 2.5 - 3% at least.  0.85% shows poor RBC production.  With macrocytosis (large RBCs) consider B12, folate (folic acid) deficiency, certain drugs, liver disease, low thyroid, myelodysplastic syndrome &amp; other bone marrow disease

Don't treat numbers: Serum sodium of 127, a "left shift", and a reticulocyte index of 2.1 are all worrisome. This isn't the place to try to diagnose disease with only labs; labs mean nothing in isolation. This is anything from serious disease to a runner who drank a whole lot of water. These are items you should discuss with your physician, who's familiar with your entire medical history.
