Finding what works: The single most important point you can make about stress is that in most cases it's not what's out there that's the problem, it's how you react to it. How you react is determined by how you perceive a particular stress. 

*keep a positive attitude with positive affirmations. "i have time for everything today"!

*accept that there are events that you cannot control.

Question yourself: Why don't you relax? What "conditioning" have you had that prevents you from relaxing?
Breathing is he simplest technique to start...Sit and breathe in to a count of 4 , hold 4, out 4, hold 4. You can make it 6, 8, 10 - whatever you like. Bu deep breathing calms the body  and the nervous system. Schedule time for yourself to relax-massage, breathing, meditating, etc.

Very individual: Ask yourself what is the most relaxing thing you like to do - reading, watching a movie, listening to some music, dancing, talking with friends? Whatever it is for you, do it!

Type of stress?: Some methods work better than others, depending on the circumstances.

You can try taking a deep breath, then let the air out slowly, imagining you are a balloon with a hole the width of a pin, leaking air very slowly. This often helps.

A person trained in emotional freedom technique (eft) can teach you an easy way to decrease feelings of stress pretty quickly.

Seek help: It's so hard to do this on your own!  ask friends or look online for a psychotherapist in your city. Even if you go for just a few visits, it can make a huge difference.

You can't: No one can replace your family. But you can surround yourself with positive people. Maybe going to a church or a community center or a support group in your community would help. Or you might want to consider talking to a counselor about how you are feeling. Being shunned hurts.  You shouldn't be alone with those feelings.

Mindfulness meditation is a particularly helpful practice, as are yoga and tai chi.  Becoming a more relaxed person may be a desirable side effect of these.
