Good question: Dialyzers are made of a polyurethane capsule within which hollow fibers or parallel membrane plates are suspended in dialysate (dialysis solution). The fibers or plates act as a semipermeable membrane across which blood and dialysate flow. By crossing this membrane, solutes and water move between a patient's intravascular compartment and the dialysis fluid contained within the dialyzer.

P-obstruct. diuresis: In majority, functional recovery in usually seen in the first week to ten days after obstruction is relieved. If severe renal failure is present, dialysis may be indicated, even after complete resolution of the obstruction.  Dialysis may be required for a few weeks. In these cases complete functional improvement may not take place.

However it is an invasive procedure with its own risks from the surgical procedure and the side effects of the drugs needed to prevent rejection.  This is the reason for extensive testing and counseling before transplantation.

Big difference: Both are ways to treat kidney failure. Dialysis is the cleansing of the blood of most impurities that build up without a functioning kidney.  It can be done through  a machine with filters or through a tube in the peritoneum (abdomen) to exchange fluids.  A transplant means surgically implanting a new kidney to due to job of the old ones.

Low BP: An unstable patient would be more likely to suffer hypotension, which happens all too often during dialysis.

Dialysis: Dialysis is used in patients with end stage renal disease (function less than 15%), certain metabolic abnormalities (high potassium), certain drug overdoses and toxicities.  It is most often used in patients who have chronic kidney disease that progresses to end stage and helps prevent build up of urine toxins (uremia) and volume overload.
