Dialysis: Dialysis is used in patients with end stage renal disease (function less than 15%), certain metabolic abnormalities (high potassium), certain drug overdoses and toxicities. It is most often used in patients who have chronic kidney disease that progresses to end stage and helps prevent build up of urine toxins (uremia) and volume overload.
