A member asked:

What are the differences between renal dialysis and transplant?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Less cardiac risk: The most important advantage of kidney transplant over dialysis is that it reduces the excess risk of cardiac mortality from kidney failure. However it is an invasive procedure with its own risks from the surgical procedure and the side effects of the drugs needed to prevent rejection. This is the reason for extensive testing and counseling before transplantation.
