have ulcerative colitis. taking lialda for four years. can i take celebrex (celecoxib) for arthritis pain? i know i can't use aspirin or ibuprofen.

Accepted Answer

Yes for short time: If your IBD is in remission then, you can use Celebrex (celecoxib) for up to 14 days without risk to your IBD.  Otherwise, no there is a contraindication against the drug.

i have had a sore throat for 6 months. dry throat, phlegm and a feeling of a lump. low below the adam's apple. i don't have a hoarse voice or voice change. i have ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis and oral lichen. what do i do? 32y male?

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. Given your auto-immune disorder, it may be due to thyroiditis or lichen lesions in the throat, among other causes.  It would be prudent to see a doctor. Wish you good health!

Yes: Pseudopolyps in ulcerative colitis are islands of normal mucosa that remain between the broad ulcers.

Arthritis : Acute arthritis after j pouch surgery for ulcerative colitis is seen in a small number of patients. Though not very common it is reported and can affect multiple joints or few joints.

can someone tell me if  there is any connection between ulcerative colitis and high ocular pressure?

Accepted Answer

Possible: There is a relationship between ulcerative colitis and uveitis. This swelling within the iris could cause obstruction if severe enough. Have you had a good ocular exam.

Possibly: Raynaud phenomenon can occur in the absence of known illness. It has also been linked to more than a dozen aliments, many of which have an auto immune feature like psoriatic arthritis.

Yes : People with psoriasis (including psoriatic arthritis) have higher incidence of metabolic syndrome, diabetes, hyperglycemia, hypertension and obesity, all risk factors for cardiovascular disease.  Atherosclerosis, presumably due to the inflammatory nature of the condition is more common in pa. There is some evidence suggesting anti-tnf therapy lowers the cardiovascular risk in patients with pa.

is the antibiotic cephalexin 500mg 4x/ day safe for someone who suffers from ulcerative colitis or crohns. would it cause flare ups? it was given due to a deep cut. the last thing we want is to mess something related to the colitis?

: People with such inflammatory bowel diseases are at increased risk for.c diff.infections which also are more serious for them. I would ask the MD who prescribed the antibiotic if the patient truly needs it. I have been more circumspect in prescribing antibiotics for patients with IBD or who are immunosuppressed.

have a small white lump on anus have had it for months.it gets itchy near the anus especially at night and skin is very dry around that area.sometimes it feels like theres a cut near that area.i have ulcerative colitis. what could this possibly be?

: Granuloma? I would be certain to discuss with Dr. and let them look at it. A picture/look is worth 1000 words.  You can google this and look at images to see if anything looks like it.

can crohns disease/ulcerative colitis cause constipation? or mostly constipation with bouts of diarrhea?

: Yes. But don't self diagnose. Best is to get checked by a gastroenterologist.
